Jazz is a popular style of dance taught at SAA. The umbrella term “jazz” covers a wide variety of styles: Classical Broadway Jazz all the way to the current moves that are often seen in music videos. Jazz dance is a technique-ed discipline deriving from ballet. Much of the steps learned are ballet steps. What makes this class attractive is the more relaxed learning environment, edgy music, as well as choreography.

To effectively master this style it is highly recommended that students consider taking a ballet class in conjunction; multi-class discounts are offered. For younger dancers, take advantage of our combination classes for an introduction to jazz.

Schedule Information

This hour class is given once a week from August-May, and for our more serious dancer maybe combined with another class such as Cecchetti, or a class in Tap. Please see our schedule page for full details and the ability to register for any of our classes.

This class participates in the End-of-the-Year Performance; a production where students become part of a full length show, presented at a professional theater. From the youngest dancer to the most mature soloist, every cast member works as a part of a team to put on a professional quality show that will excite its audience.

Dress Requirements

The class uniform is: Black leotard, black jazz pants, and black jazz shoes, hair pulled away from face. The Dressing Room, housed at Suwanee Academy of the Arts, has all the attire needed for class.
